April Sutton is an award-winning Television Broadcast Pioneer in Hollywood, and a speaker at the United Nations General Assembly. She is the youngest Inductee in the Broadcasters Hall of Fame (1993) for her outstanding television work on the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Network. More than 50 million TV viewers have watched her entertainment reports covering the Oscars, the Grammy Music Awards, Emmy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, American Music Awards, Hollywood Movie Premieres, Red-Carpet gala events and breaking news interviews on Scene, The Geraldo Show, and as as the Producer and Host of the April in Hollywood Show.
A native of Akron, Ohio, Sutton became the first Hollywood on-air talent for BET as the Face of Hollywood for decades, which sealed her name as part of BET’s early history. Award winning celebrity interviews include Oscar winners Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Hudson, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Tom Hanks. Other notable interviews include Jim Carey, Tom Cruise, Beyoncé, Janet Jackson, Quincy Jones, Sean Connery, Chris Rock, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Madonna, Samuel L. Jackson, Robin Williams, P. Diddy, Eddie Murphy and Janet Jackson just to name a few. Her status as a Hollywood trailblazer and popular TV host of numerous shows including Screen Scene opened new career opportunities. She was the West coast television correspondent for The Geraldo Show (CBS), covering the O.J. Simpson case, the Princess Diana story, the Tupac Shakur murder case, and numerous Hollywood movie premieres and Red-carpet gala events. Sutton receives honor and recognition from numerous humanitarian, civic, and community organizations for her television work and has received proclamations from the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, City of Compton, City of Lynwood.
A committed advocate and humanitarian for many countries, Sutton has provided collaborative humanitarian aid recently for Tanzania, Kenya, and the Caribbean and has delivered tens of thousands of tennis shoes in aid to these countries. She works tirelessly developing projects which bridges the gap between top celebrities, international diplomatic public relations, and domestic diversity and equity issues and concerns. Her work continues as the Founder of the Diplomats Diversi-Tea Gala.
A speaker at the United Nations General Assembly, she addresses humanitarian and global issues with World Leaders including Presidents, Kings, Prime Ministers, and Foreign Ministers. Her participation with diplomats at international summits and leadership forums ensures that she and others remain engaged on current pressing topics. Her unwavering focus on inter-cultural affairs and her extensive association with world renown celebrities seems to be a tailored made match.
Residing in Los Angeles, Ms. Sutton holds a Master of Arts in Television Communications from Kent State University, and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech Communications.
